As Chief Secretary in the Government of West Bengal, he was the head of several critical Task Forces and Committees; notably as the Chairman of the Committee on Public Enterprises Restructuring,
High Power Committee on Industry and Committee on Industry Urban Land Use. Apart from holding the office of Home Secretary & Principal Secretary in the Home Department and being Director of Calcutta Urban Transport Project, he was also the Principal of the Higher Education Department where he pioneered the setting up of privately funded engineering colleges. In 2001, Microsoft, USA organized a Government World Leaders Conference in Seattle, USA in which he formally participated. During his tenure as chief secretary Mr. Gupta has played a significant role in promoting and supporting several IT development initiatives and programs in West Bengal. |
